Canyon in Madeira

Ribeira dos Cedros (Superior, Santana)

Beginner · v2a2 II

Rappels: 7 · Max waterfall: 36 m · Min rope: 40 m

An easy and quite beautiful canyon. It is practically dry in late spring (May), but with water it would be more interesting and challenging, especially R7, the 36 m final rappel.

Current status

As of May 2021

Practically dry; easy and pretty; R4 with maillon, R5 bolt lacking a hanger; all other rappels from trees.

Anchors and re-equipment

R4 has a maillon. R5 has a bolt on the right but without a hanger. All other rappels are from trees.

Official notes

All rappels are done from trees: R1: right bank 15 m; R2: right 13 m; R3: left 15 m; R4: left 13 m; R5: left 20 m; R6: right 6 m; R7: left 36 m.

Anchors, flow and access change with every storm and every winter. Treat the current status as a snapshot and check the latest conditions before any descent.
