Canyon in Madeira

Córrego da Achada Grande

Unclassified · -

Córrego da Achada Grande is a low-water Santana canyon dropping from 1440 m to 1000 m altitude, with no car shuttle required. The rappels can all be done from natural anchors, though in some places care is needed with rope friction and rub points. The verticals themselves are accessible and the flow is minimal, but the ground is extremely slippery in many places, which is the main hazard. No difficulty grade, rappel count, waterfall heights, rope lengths or timings are documented.

Official notes

The rappels can be done from natural anchors, but attention to rope-friction details is needed in some places. Water flow is minimal and the verticals are accessible, but the terrain is extremely slippery in many places.

Anchors, flow and access change with every storm and every winter. Treat the current status as a snapshot and check the latest conditions before any descent.
