Canyon in Madeira

Ribeiro Bonito (Inferior)

Beginner · v2a3 III

Rappels: 5 · Max waterfall: 21 m · Min rope: 25 m

A simple, aesthetic canyon with long walking sections between the drops. Water runs along the whole route even in late summer (confirmed in late September 2018).

Current status

As of September 2018

Flowing water throughout, some anchors renewed and the exit path partly overgrown. Conditions have not been confirmed more recently.

Anchors and re-equipment

Some anchors were replaced in September 2018; which rappels were renewed is not recorded.

Access and exit

Exit. The exit path is somewhat overgrown with vegetation because the surrounding farmland has been abandoned.

Official notes

A simple but very aesthetic descent, with long walking sections in between. Beware in strong flow: there are narrow sections.

Anchors, flow and access change with every storm and every winter. Treat the current status as a snapshot and check the latest conditions before any descent.
